AboutUs
The Malferd Lerner Foundation is a non-profit charitable organisation committed to enhancing the well-being of cancer patients. Established in memory of Marilyn Lerner, the foundation honours her life by providing support to those currently facing or who have previously faced a cancer diagnosis. Its mission is rooted in compassion, aiming to uplift and assist individuals during one of the most challenging times in their lives.
As part of this mission, the Malferd Lerner Foundation offers £100 Beauty Vouchers (valid for 6 months) o individuals undergoing cancer treatment. These vouchers can be redeemed at participating salons across St John's Wood, allowing recipients to experience the healing benefits of self-care. This initiative, known as "Beauty Therapy," helps to boost morale and provide a sense of normalcy and comfort during difficult times.

Our Vision
The Foundation will operate from beauty salons, starting in London, with the aim of alleviating anxiety, boosting self-confidence, and helping individuals face any challenges they may encounter.
Funding will be provided by the Foundation to cover various beauty treatments, which we refer to as "Beauty Therapy." This initiative is designed to pamper and relax recipients during, before, or after their treatment—whether for just an hour or an entire day—helping them feel better about themselves.
Both salons are generously donating their space and expertise to support the Foundation in assisting cancer patients to relax and improve their well-being.
All treatments will be administered by highly qualified and compassionate staff.

FERDI'S STORY
My story is much like many others. I am Ferdi, the husband of Marilyn Lerner. Marilyn was a kind and fun-loving person who always cared for others. I met her when she was just 16, and it was love at first sight; we were inseparable for nearly 60 years.
For over four years, I witnessed the struggles faced by those with cancer due to the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I felt my wife’s pain, and it was heartbreaking to see others suffering as well. Yet, their resilience was truly inspiring.
Now that she’s gone, I believe I can do even more to help. Both Marilyn and I were hairdressers, dedicated to making people look and feel good, which inspired my idea for the beauty centres.
This initiative will be my legacy, and I am committed to making these centres a reality in the best way possible. I will dedicate the rest of my life to supporting others battling this illness, helping cancer patients everywhere to find strength and courage. I know my wife would want me to help, and this would make her proud.
Marilyn’s journey began with pain in her side, leading to her cancer diagnosis. Together, we faced this battle, which was incredibly difficult, yet she always wore a smile and worried about others. Sadly, Marilyn passed away on April 23, 2019, at the young age of 74, full of life.
Her legacy will be remembered for the courage and determination she showed in fighting cancer, inspiring others along the way. As her oncologist said, Marilyn was a remarkable and amazing woman.
Reflecting on 2015 when I first heard the words “you have cancer” still brings fear. Our entire world was turned upside down. It requires immense strength, courage, willpower, and determination to process such news; it’s a daunting experience. However, life goes on, and one must grit their teeth and be brave in facing whatever challenges arise.
